The following is an excerpt of an independent interview conducted by Business Franchise Magazine with our Darwin NT franchisee Steve Baillie that was published in their Sept/Oct 2008 edition:
Steve ‘Beetle’ Baillie is the owner of the first ever All Stripped franchise, situated in Darwin NT (popn 117,400 – 2008). “I’m a carpenter by trade and have lived in Darwin for about 15 years, mining for the past 10 years.” He took over the existing operation on 1st August 2007. “And I haven’t looked back since – it’s going really well.”
Financially it was a bit of a gamble. Beetle says, “I was on a pretty reasonable wicket with the mining, earning a six figure sum, but I haven’t gone backwards since changing over – it’s really taken off.”
Beetle highly recommends All Stripped to prospective franchisees: “You need to be a bit of salesman initially, mainly because people don’t believe we can do what we do in the timeframe. Once they see what we achieve, we’ve got them forever as a client and they tell all their friends.”
He also says being punctual is important: “Doing a quote or a job when you say you’re going to be there – we win a lot of work just by doing that. Also, with my staff, I won’t ask them to do anything I wouldn’t do – you just get in and do it with them.”
A big selling point for franchisees is that All Stripped offer to undertake invoicing, as well as providing a national 1300 booking service where jobs are then distributed. Beetle says All Stripped Head Office’s assistance is of great benefit: “At the end of the day I send my job sheet to Perth and they take care of all my invoicing and chase creditors, so that’s a bonus.”
