From humble beginnings as Capt’n Snooze, we rapidly grew into six specialty stores offering new standards of service, expertise and range. In 1976 we began to franchise, opening stores across Victoria and New South Wales. And then in 1992, as Capt’n Snooze, we merged with the Queensland franchised bedding group, Bedpost. This established us as one of the largest specialist franchised bedding chains in Australia.
In 2001, we became part of an international group, Steinhoff Asia Pacific, which also operates the Freedom and BayLeather Republic brands.
In 2006, we rebranded ourselves Snooze, updated our logo and gave our stores a stylish new look. Our stores now exclusively incorporate the Kingsdown BodyDiagnostic System, computer technology that profiles our customers’ bodies, and assists them to select the bed that is right for them.
Snooze has been in business for more than 30 years and over the years of launching franchises we’ve learnt that for you to succeed, you’ll need a plan and the proper infrastructure. Today Snooze has over 70 stores – more than half of which have been operating for 10 years, some now in business for 20 years. Our Snooze brand spans Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria, with plans for further growth.
What comes with a Snooze franchise?
When you become a Snooze franchise partner, you get the non-exclusive rights to use the Snooze name and its business system for a certain period of time, at a particular location.
Will I run the franchise operation?
In short yes. Snooze will, however provide you with comprehensive training (costs may be involved), and back-up support should a problem arise while you operate your franchise.
What experience do I require?
You’ll need some knowledge of retail operations along with business and financial experience, and be willing to work with the Snooze Management team. Bedding industry experience is a bonus, but not essential.
Does Snooze provide training?
We provide initial intensive training, as well as ongoing support through formal training, franchisee forums, newsletters, meetings and conferences.
How much does a new Snooze franchise cost?
The initial franchise fee is currently $50,000 plus GST (not including stock investment. See below).
What is the length of a Snooze franchise?
A Snooze franchise is generally for a 10 year period.
Are there any ongoing fees?
Snooze generally charges a service fee of 3.5% of the franchise partners’ gross revenue. An additional 5% of gross revenue is contributed to the Snooze group’s marketing fund. Furthermore franchise partners are encouraged to contribute a further 1% of gross revenue on their own local marketing activities. There are also opportunities for the metropolitan stores to optimize their sales through the contribution to various local marketing programs.
How much should I invest in stock?
Stock varies according to location and turnover, but it’s usually in the range of $300,000 – $400,000. There may also be other costs involved in acquiring and setting up a store.
